Boekhoudkantoor Mechlinia is an accounting office in Mechelen, founded in 1988. It is led by Steven Van Moere and Katja Verelst, both tax accountants registered with the ITAA, with support from a colleague in accounting and tax. The office works for the self-employed, SMEs and liberal professions. It stresses quality, flexibility and personal support, at an affordable price and in a professional yet relaxed atmosphere.

According to the office, you can expect more from your accountant than keeping the books and filling in a return. Its approach includes thinking along with clients, structuring the business in relation to personal wealth, tax optimisation, property planning, investment advice and support in loan negotiations. It presents continuing training as a priority, given how complex legislation has become.

There are two bookkeeping options. Either the office processes the data in full, or clients enter it themselves and the office supervises. Interim balance sheets add to this, with monthly or quarterly reporting. The annual accounts come with a financial report that includes ratios, multi-year overviews and a review of the balance sheet and results. The office also drafts legal reports, in particular for the general meeting and the board.

On tax, it defends the interests of the taxpayer and assists during tax audits. For corporate tax, staff follow recent developments through ongoing training. For personal income tax, it ensures directors file a complete return without missing any deduction or reduction, and points out possible savings. For VAT, it prepares monthly or quarterly returns, the listing and intra-Community statements. It places emphasis on correct application when a business operates outside Belgium.

Starters receive full support: feasibility study, financial plan, advice on the company form, registration with the CBE, and follow-up on the activation of the enterprise and VAT numbers. The office also applies for permits and certificates, follows up mandatory affiliations, and calculates and adjusts social contributions. A first meeting comes with no obligation.

The financial and legal strand covers financial planning at each stage of the business, through regular consultation. The office supports loan applications and subsidy requests, carries out financial analyses, and gives management advice along with economic, legal and social guidance. For specialised questions, it refers clients to its network of advisers: notaries, lawyers, auditors, insurance brokers, social secretariats and social insurance funds.
