Fisc-it

Fisc-it is an online accounting practice on Kwadestraat-Zuid in Meerbeke, part of Ninove in East Flanders. It is set up as a limited partnership and approved as a company by the ITAA under number 50.446.060. Its founder, Annelies Pauwels, is herself an ITAA-registered tax accountant. She describes herself as a numbers nerd who rejects the stereotype of the accountant in a grey suit, and puts the emphasis on plain language, without financial terms you would have to look up.

The practice has chosen a very specific client base: freelancers, consultants and coaches, including those self-employed on the side. It only offers ongoing support, following up accounting and tax obligations and optimisations throughout the year: one-off advice or a mere check of a tax return is not part of the offer. At the time of review, Fisc-it had a temporary stop on new clients to protect service quality for existing ones, with a waiting list.

Everything runs on Yuki, the only accounting software the practice uses: a new client working with another package has to switch to Yuki. Clients upload documents whenever they like, from their computer, by e-mail, via Dropbox or Google Drive, or by photographing receipts with the mobile app, and check their figures on a dashboard that is always available. Contact is by WhatsApp, e-mail, video call or phone, and office visits remain possible; the first meeting is always by video.

For a start-up or sole trader, Fisc-it handles the launch, registration with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises and a social insurance fund, VAT returns and the annual client listing, profit calculation, the personal income tax return, optimisation of social contributions and advice during the year. For companies, it adds the obligations specific to companies, such as the corporate income tax return. Results are processed every quarter, so clients have up-to-date figures.

Beyond bookkeeping, Fisc-it wants to be a sparring partner for tax and operational questions: investments, optimisation, profit distributions and social contributions. It works with a fixed package price tailored to the client's situation and charges no administrative start-up fees when switching accountant or setting up a business; a financial plan or registration at a business counter are discussed separately. It also arranges the switch from a previous accountant by power of attorney.

The website publishes practical articles, on the Reprobel licence, business gifts or filing the VAT client listing, and offers courses and e-books for the self-employed.
